THE man chosen to give the NSW Australia Day speech will tell his audience: "Racism is still very much alive in Australia."

Dr Charlie Teo, a world-renowned neurosurgeon and son of Chinese immigrants, said yesterday that while Australia was "the best nation in the world", even his daughter had been a victim of abuse by drunken Aussies because she looks Chinese, The Daily Telegraph reported.

"I don't quite like it when I hear politicians reassuring the Indians there's no racism in Australia. That's bullshit," Mr Teo said at the NSW Australia Day Council's launch yesterday, ahead of his speech on Monday. "Racism is still very much alive in Australia.

"My daughter, for example, was saying to me just the other day, very sadly, she doesn't like Australia Day. She has in the past dressed up, got into the spirit of things, put a sticker on her face, worn the green and gold and been told by drunk Australians to go home because she looks Chinese.

That's so sad. You can't get more Australian than my daughter."

But immigrants also had a role to play to ensure they were embraced, he said.

"I get upset when I see ethnic minorities behaving in a bad way," Dr Teo said.

"I know it's controversial but you can't expect Australians to embrace immigration unless immigrants who come here are respectful."

The Order of Australia Medal recipient and two-time NSW Australian of the Year finalist said he loved Australia's egalitarian mentality and other attributes, adding: "The bottom line is I believe in (Australia), although there are some faults it is still the best nation in the world in which to live.

But I don't think it's right for a white Australian to say there is no racism. You have to be an Indian to say there is no anti-Indian sentiment and you have to be Middle Eastern to say there is no Middle Eastern racism.

"Unless you're Indian you can't say there is no anti-Indian feeling."

Dr Teo also gave the example of a neurosurgeon who came to Australia to study with him for three months.

"He was Indian and it was so sad. He came in one day and says 'I was just standing on the side of the road waiting at the traffic light' and someone spat at him and told him to go home, back to India.

Just spat on him. How sad is that? That that still exists.

"When you think about it, we are all immigrants, apart from the Aborigines here today, we are immigrants.

"So to think that Australian means white Caucasian is absolutely wrong."

Prime Minister Julia Gillard was instrumental in the government's response to the mistreatment of Indian students. "Australians are an open and generous people, and we repudiate racism wherever we see it," her spokesman said.

Anti-Discrimination Board president Stepan Kerkyasharian said there was racism in any society.

于是乎，受教育程度低的一帮白猪以及欧洲傻逼就不知道该怎么得瑟了。

今天电台的一个节目中，一女儿跟一Asian成家的本地人打进电话，先夸赞这个女婿和女婿家的人是如何如何的好，然后讲了一件事：前阵子她女儿和女婿在悉尼的CITY处牵手逛街，走着走着忽然有一本地人走过来，用Dirty 的语言将她女儿骂了一阵，原因是因为这个女的跟亚洲人亲热

其实歧视那里都有。但另一方面我们也要看到，墨尔本的前市长苏振西就是华人，陆克文也讲一口流利的汉语，她的长女也嫁给了华裔移民。歧视华人的人说到底就是loser,他们怕竞争，生存能力差，将一切的错误都归咎于他人。我根本don't give a shit. 十年后他们就不得不接受了。

在英国，英格兰人看不起威尔士人，威尔士人看不起北爱尔兰人。在英格兰，伦敦人看不起曼城人，城里的还看不起乡下的，说他们口音重，类似中国叫"土鳖"的话称之为 red neck. 没啥了不起的。

Dr Charlie Teo说移民受歧视，是移民本身素质不高的问题，应该受歧视。他女儿被搞是因为她女儿长的象移民，虽然她女儿是纯aussie。
从某种程度上，也许说的有一定道理。

想想人还真是个奇怪的物种

我觉得吧：我是读到、听到、看到越多，就越觉得自己很无知，就越不敢随便轻易的轻视谁，更别说是什么种族和文化了。

每一个部族、每一种文化，都具有自己的独特的东西，都拥有自己引以为豪而外人所不知的智慧和魅力，因为自己的不了解就去妄下非议是很不应该的。

To be more open 包涵对性的坦然、言论的自由。。。更重要的是指要尊重，如果做不到也要坦然面对其他人群和文化的不同。

发现我越来越不愤青了，是不是老了？

AUSTRALIANS are too paranoid to admit that racism is a problem in this country, a Young Australian of the Year finalist says.

Samah Hadid, 23, a human rights activist, said Australia would not overcome the issue until it accepted there was a problem.

"I'm bewildered by the reaction when anybody suggests that there is racism in this country," she said.

"It hits a nerve and it triggers a paranoia where people say that there is no existence of racism.

"It's quite annoying, particularly being from a minority group that experiences racism."

Ms Hadid's comments come after the Herald Sun reported yesterday that respected neurosurgeon Dr Charles Teo said racism was "very much alive in Australia".

The story prompted hundreds of comments on the Herald Sun website, in a spirited debate about multiculturalism in Australia.

A Herald Sun poll last night found 83 per cent of readers agreed with Dr Teo's comments. By 5.30pm yesterday 8452 readers had voted.

The strong support for Dr Teo's comments comes as the Scanlon Foundation's Mapping Social Cohesion 2011 report says racial discrimination in Australia has grown by more than 50 per cent in the past four years.

The survey of 2000 people across the country found that 14 per cent of people last year had been victims of racial discrimination, compared with 9 per cent in 2007.

Hass Dellal, director of the Australian Multicultural Foundation, said that some people judged others on unfair stereotypes.

He said migrants and people from settled communities should interact with each other more through volunteering.

Premier Ted Baillieu said Victoria had a proud record of promoting its multicultural community, but said there were some problems.

"I don't deny, and I don't think anyone would deny, that there are in any community people with racist attitudes," he said.

Senator Kate Lundy, Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, said the Federal Government had set up an anti-racism partnership with the Human Rights Commission.
