Design ideas exercise
Please read the following instructions:
There are many challenges and opportunities facing the built environment as we head towards the near future. Select a building, area or problem
in Melbourne or near you that you think needs redesigning and provide your vision for this area in the near future. Your vision may be informed
by contemporary issues about the built environment or may purely be a way of demonstrating your design ideas. We are interested in ambitious
and brave responses. They do not necessarily need to be practical or even possible at the moment. Think broadly and imaginatively.
Please use the following page for your submission. You may use illustration, model making (submit photographs only), photomontage,
collage, painting; anything that you think will express your ideas. A written explanation of the design should also be included.
Please note: should you require more space, only A4 sheets will be accepted.
You should expect to spend approximately eight hours on this exercise. There is not one correct response or right answer that we are looking
for and we do not expect you to have any substantial prior knowledge of the architectural discipline. You should draw on your own experience
and imagination and put forward your own ideas. Please think carefully about your response before making a final draft so that your ideas and
presentation are clear to the selection panel.
