Some people think that universities should not provide so much theoretical knowledge but give more practical training throughout their courses.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
In terms of university education, some people claim that there are too much theoretical classes. Instead, they insist that the practical courses should weigh more in college education which definitely will benefit students. I agree with this opinion totally and the arguments are presented below.
Certainly, theories and principles are quite important in any education. They are precious heritages of scientific and empirical findings and conclusions from our ancestors. Based on the forerunners’ achievements, people nowadays could proceed with the development of science and other knowledge and contribute our society significantly. Besides, it is neither possible nor necessary for us to do all the exercises or experiments by ourselves. Therefore, theoretical knowledge is vital for young people to learn and master.
However, could students learn those principles, formulas, methodologies etc easily as expected? Honestly no. As we know about, theoretical knowledge is usually abstract and obscure. It is hard to understand and easy to forget. Reversely, practices are generally impressive and can help students to understand well. Combining theories with practice can best educate learners according to some scientific researches. For example, theoretically it is not easy to realize how compass works. But doing magnetic experiments, learner will grasp the theory much easier. Furthermore, practices improve children hand-on capabilities. And consequently, they improve the young people’s abilities of problem solving. They will tend to utilize the original knowledge and design their experiments to prove their thoughts.
In conclusion, for students’ benefits, it is recommended to adopt more practical courses to replace part of the huge amount of theoretical classes to avoid teenagers from being confused and lost in the abstract and tedious theories.
