PRIMARY ROLE PURPOSE:
The Civil Assistant Designer will assist in the delivery of transport infrastructure in a commercial environment with a strong client focus. The primary role of this position is to focus on road and traffic design and CADD principles to meet the needs of clients by assisting the project team in the development of civil engineering designs and drawings. The incumbent will undertake tasks assigned by Senior Officers and in accordance with established work practices.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Assist in the investigation, design and documentation of transport infrastructure projects to Road & Traffic clients.
• Contribute to project delivery by preparing simple straightforward designs and/or drawings for roadworks, bikeways, drainage, signs and pavement markings.
• Conduct site inspections to obtain field measurements and make relevant observations.
• Manage personal time, priorities and workload to ensure work is completed on time as agreed with supervisor.
• Apply relevant design guidelines and legislation requirements to ensure work complies with community standards, meets legal obligations, and is consistent with Council policies.
• Comply with and assist in the development and continuous improvement of City Business’s Quality Management System.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:
1. Demonstrated ability in producing simple detailed design drawings utilising computer aided drafting design packages (CADD), which necessitates sound computer skills in AutoCAD or other CADD systems.
2. Demonstrated ability to produce simple designs of bikeways, roadworks and drainage including traffic control devices and also conduct site inspections.
3. Demonstrated sound written and oral communication skills.
4. Well developed time management and organisation skills.
Desirable:
1. Studying to obtain the advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification, or demonstration of equivalent skill and knowledge.
2. Current ‘C’ Class drivers licence.
3. Knowledge and understanding of Workplace Health and Safety practices and policies and a commitment to operate within Council's 'Zero Harm' philosophy. |
