今天收到一封CEO给全体员工的信,内容如下:
All,
Today I am writing to you about only one topic. But it is a critical one.
Suicide.
It is a word we have been, and still may be, scared to use.
But maybe we should have used it more often.
Many of you may not be aware that this year, a number of our people have arrived at a point where, for them, suicide was the only path they felt was an option.
And we have others across our company who have lost loved ones who reached that very same point.
This inevitably leads to the question: What more could I have done ?
Or in the case of our whole company: What more could we have done ?
Having spent some time with those most deeply affected, it is clear all cases are different and it is clear there are no easy answers to those questions.
But that will not stop us trying to do what we can to better equip us all to recognise and respond to any form of mental illness or emotional distress that may be facing a team mate.
Managers will be undergoing a course – “Managing Mental Health for Leaders and Mental Health in the Workplace”. All of us will have the chance to undertake an online course – “Managing Stress”.
I respectfully ask you to do this.
And ask you to do one other thing.
We are all busy. But we can all take the time to ask a question of our colleagues.
We don’t have to and should not wait until the designated day to ask someone: ‘R U OK’?
Asking a question is only the first bit. Listening is even more important.
None of us are mental health professionals. But we can all listen.
It just might be the most important few minutes you ever spend in your life, and in someone else’s life.
