6 If a product is of good quality and meets people's needs, people will buy it. Advertising is unnecessary and is no more than a type of entertainment. To what extent do you agree or disagree?



Today, mass media such as TV, newspaper and Internet are inundated with advertisement. However, when it comes to what determines one buys, some people believe that advertisement is nothing but just provides people with entertainment. It is the quality of product and requirement of individual that plays a decisive factor. Personally, I agree their view, but I would qualify it to some extent.

It is understandable that some people think commercials do not play a key role in what one buys. The main reason for this is that they believe advertisements do not always tell the truth. Some advertisements tend to exaggerate the quality and function of the commodities, so that the goods which we buy are often not as good as what have been advertised. Besides, there are a large number of false ads flooding on the newspaper or Internet, which makes people do not trust ads at all. Moreover, each individual has wise choice about shopping, so commercials can hardly sway it.

However, the influence of commercials should never be ignored. One of the biggest effects of advertisements is that they can greatly promote sales. This is because some good ads can leave people deep impression. Taking TV advertisements for example, they usually utilize beautiful music and visual skills, which make people to remember the goods easily. As a result, when people compare different brand names of commodities, they would surely choose those they know well. In this point, advertisement actually affects what people buy.

To conclude, despite everyone has his idea of purchase, nobody can really escape the influence of advertising. Therefore, we should be smart about advertising. In this way, we would buy what we actually need.
