Sony just released a rambling update to it corporate strategy through fiscal year 2010. An interesting read for fans and competitors alike as Sony lays bare initiatives intent on moving Sony from recovery to the "leading global provider of networked consumer electronics and entertainment." Most notable in the near-term however, is word from Kazuo Hirai, chieftain of Sony Computer Entertainment, that Sony will make a movie download service available to US PlayStation 3 owners this summer, Japan and Europe at later dates -- details coming "next month," presumably at E3. Moreover, Sony expects its gaming business to achieve profitability by March 2009, the end of the current fiscal year. Of course, we already knew that Sony was prepped to deliver full-length TV shows and movies sometime in 2008 via its North American PLAYSTATION Network. But summer, eh? Judging by the increased molecular agitation of sidewalk effluence, we'd say that Sony's season of movie downloads is already upon us.

With Roku's Netflix Player all out in the open and an LG box just around the bend, Chuck's question is particularly timely. There are already quite a few choices out there for folks looking to snag a dedicated movie set-top-box, but has the best one even arrived?

"I pretty much stick with OTA reception when I watch TV, and while Netflix / Blockbuster is fine, I've recently been considering a standalone movie set-top-box for instant gratification purposes. With the Apple TV, VUDU and Roku Netflix Player already out, which one would be best to pick up? I realize more units are expected, but I'm particularly fond of models that support HD films. Really, I'm just looking for user opinions on each, especially if they already own one or have used one."

We'd also like to point out that Netflix's "Watch Now" feature can be piped to your TV fairly easily if you have a nearby HTPC or Xbox 360, but alas, you won't be seeing any material in high-def from there. Here's your shot at defending (or lambasting) your own movie STB -- and... go!

Though we'd have to say this introduction was made just a hair too late, iPort has just introduced a revamped version of its in-wall iPod system that will accommodate the original iPhone. More specifically, each of the firm's five models features a re-designed faceplate that plays nice with Apple's older cellphone and all existing touch-wheel iPods. Aside from that, you're still looking at the same whole home approach to distributing iPhone / iPod content, and while we can't say for sure that the iPhone 3G will work outright, there's nothing that a little Dremel can't fix.

Earlier this year, we allowed you all to exchange blows about whether an HD projector or HDTV was more suitable for high-definition aficionados. Now, however, we've received a question that caters to those leaning towards the former:

"I'm looking for a projector for my wife's photography business. I would also like it to double as an HD home theater projector when not entertaining clients. I'm going to be projecting on an 88-inch screen with ample room to vary the throw distance. What are some specs I should be looking for to get great hi-res pictures to show nicely as well as watch some action flicks from my Blu-ray player? Should I go with DLP or LCD?"

As you'll see, cost as a factor wasn't mentioned, but we'll go on and assume that SIM2's C3X is just slightly out of the picture. So, help this guy out, will ya? Are you madly in love with your current beamer? Would you recommend your neighbor's unit instead? Talk it up in comments below.

Got a burning question that you'd love to toss out for Engadget HD (or its readers) to take a look at? Tired of Google's blank stares when you ask for real-world experiences? Hit us up at ask at engadgethd dawt com and keep an eye on this space -- your inquiry could be next.

SYDNEY'S M5 East tunnel has been closed because of an electrical fault with its safety computers, leaving traffic banked up for kilometres in each direction.

Technicians are now trying to fix the problem with the computers, which control safety systems in the motorway tunnel at Bexley North, in Sydney's south.

The New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has urged motorists to avoid the area as they try to fix the technical glitch.

All eastbound traffic has been diverted onto King Georges Road, while westbound traffic has been funneled onto General Holmes Drive, the RTA said.

BRAZIL'S President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticized wealthy nations as xenophobic today and urged them to show more solidarity after the European Union adopted tougher immigration policies last week.

EU lawmakers ruled that illegal immigrants can be detained for up to 18 months and face a re-entry ban of up to five years, measures condemned by human rights groups.

"The cold wind of xenophobia is again blowing its false answers to economic and social challenges," Mr Lula said to a group of business leaders in Sao Paulo.

"What is the big problem we have in the developed world today? It's prejudice against immigration. It's fear of losing status quo, jobs. It's an extremely serious problem in all of Europe today," Mr Lula told a conference on corporate governance.

Last week Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez also criticized the EU measures and threatened to stop selling it oil.

Mr Lula, a former union leader who has championed the fight against global hunger, urged wealthy nations to share.

"Today with unemployment, hunger and financial (market) instability, we need more co-ordination between nations and more solidarity between peoples," said Mr Lula.

Europe should not bar entry to the poor but aid the development of their countries, Mr Lula said.

Brazil complained earlier this year that Spain mistreated citizens barred from entry.

High-level talks ended the diplomatic row and reduced the number of incidents.

Immigration from Latin American countries has been particularly strong in Spain, Portugal and Italy.

US house prices dropped 22.8 per cent over the last three months as American consumer confidence slumped.

Wall Street economists described the statistics as "incredibly awful" and indicated that the likelihood of the US Federal Reserve raising interest rates tomorrow was very remote.

The numbers will come as a severe blow to Washington which had hoped that its $US150 billion ($157 billion) tax rebate program would lift the US economy out of the gloom.

However, the housing recession - which shows no sign of abating - record petrol prices and rising food costs have conspired to offset the impact of the fiscal stimulus package.

According to the S& Case-Shiller house price index, considered as the most authoritative measure of US property values, the price of the average American home fell 1.4 per cent in April from March, and by almost 23 per cent over a three month period.

The rate of the April fall however, had slowed, with the index recording 2 per cent monthly declines in the past. The index measures house prices in 20 metropolitan areas in the US - last month, Miami and Phoenix were the worst performing cities both down 3 per cent.

At the same time, Washington published official figures measuring US consumer confidence in June.

The data showed that Americans had the least confidence in their finances since records began in 1967. If borne out, Wall Street expects the lack of confidence to translate into a 3 per cent slide in overall consumption.

Consumer demand is critical to the US economy, accounting for around two thirds of growth.

The June consumer confidence index dropped to 50.4 from 58.1, well below the consensus of 56.0.

Ian Shepherdson, chief US economist at High Frequency Economics, said: "This is incredibly awful. Even as some people spend their tax rebates - chain store sales growth hit a nine-month high last week - the majority appear to be overwhelmed by the surge in gasoline and food prices, and the drop in stock and home prices.

"Talk of higher rates probably isn't helping either. This is what's coming when the rebates are spent. Rate hike? You're kidding, right?"

The US central bank is facing a dilemma as its interest rate setting committee meets today and tomorrow. On the one hand, the bank wants to leave rates low - they are at 2 per cent - to help stimulate a recovery, but on the other, the Fed is anxious to contain inflation which is being stoked by food and fuel prices.

FAMILY First senator Steve Fielding has hardened his opposition to the alcopop tax, saying the Government is hiding behind a "tax grab".

The Government must look at non-tax policies to rein in binge drinking, he said.

A Labor dominated Senate inquiry into ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages yesterday released recommendations supporting the 70 per cent alcopop tax hike, which came into effect on April 27 this year via regulation.

The Government must have supporting legislation passed by April next year for the $3.1bn rise to stand.

It will need to secure the support of Senator Fielding, all five Greens senators and incoming Senator Xenophon.

"You can't just hide behind a billion dollar tax grab,'' Senator Fielding said ABC Radio.

"Family First has thought that the best way of tackling binge drinking and creating a culture of responsible drinking is to put a range of non-tax measures in place.

"Things like putting health warning labels on alcohol products, things like closing the crazy loophole that allows alcohol ads to appear on television anytime of the day.''

Blatantly putting up taxes by 70 per cent on one category without looking at other issues or looking at the tax across the board did not make sense, Senator Fielding said.

I have the same problem. English always let me feel depressed. I don't know how to express my ideas sometimes.

No, mankind should just accept the fate - even if they will go extinct on Earth.

The party's over everybody go home,
I'm sorry I'd like to be alone,
Cos every time I see her I have to weep
I'm gonna cry myself to sleep

And through this party never thought she'd come back
All she wants to do is see me cry
And when I see her I just have to weep
I'm gonna cry myself to sleep

Cry y-y-y-y-y
Cry y-y-y-y-y

Did you notice how she danced with every guy but me
She loves to me in misery
I used to be her little buttercup
But now she comes around just to break me up

So everybody won't you please go home
The party's over and I'd like to be alone,
Cos when I see her I just have to weep
I'm gonna cry myself to sleep

Cry y-y-y-y-y
Cry y-y-y-y-y

Did you notice how she danced with every guy but me
She loves to me in misery
I used to be her little buttercup
But now she comes around just to break me up

So everybody won't you please go home
The party's over and I'd like to be alone,
Cos when I see her I just have to weep
I'm gonna cry myself to sleep

Cry y-y-y-y-y
Cry y-y-y-y-y
