RMIT’s international excellence rewarded

RMIT University has won a prestigious award for excellence in international education.

The university was named this year’s winner of the Austrade-AUSTCHAM Export Award for Business Excellence at a ceremony in Singapore last month.

The award recognised that RMIT has continued to strengthen its development of the international market, consolidating previous export achievements. In 2003, RMIT’s export business is expected to generate a nine per cent increase on 2002.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor, International, Enterprise and Community Development, Dr Madeleine Reeve, said RMIT’s success at the awards reaffirmed our position as a leader in international education.

“This award recognises RMIT‘s contribution to the enhanced reputation of Australian education and research in the global marketplace,” Dr Reeve said.

RMIT is a leading educational destination for international students looking to study in Australia and a major provider of programs for students studying through partner institutes overseas.

“With one of the highest number of international student enrolments, at around 25 per cent of the university’s student population, RMIT is fortunate to have a very diverse cultural make-up.

“Currently Singaporeans contribute 64.5 per cent of RMIT’s total higher education student population outside of Australia. At RMIT’s Melbourne campus, Singapore students continue to create a strong presence, ranking in the top 10 of source countries for international students.

“The faculties of Business; Art, Design and Communication; Constructed Environment, Engineering and Applied Science are the most popular programs for Singaporean students,” Dr Reeve said.

RMIT University is one of Australia’s largest educational institutions, providing tertiary education and training programs to more than 57,000 Australian and international students including around 6,500 studying overseas.

Through partner relationships and online learning resources, RMIT programs are delivered and awarded in nine countries worldwide and in 2001, the university’s first international campus, RMIT International University Vietnam, opened in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
