Nowadays, more and more people use computer program to translate articles. Some say this development is beneficial for the society, while others worry about the drawbacks that may come with it. Do you think the advantages of the trend outweigh its disadvantages?
Automatic translation using software has become increasingly popular. While many people see it as a positive development, some others are concerned about the possible negative effects it brings. This essay will assess both the pros and cons of this trend.
The main benefit of machine translation is speed. With the powerful processing capacity of large computers, it only take seconds to finish the whole process of translation of a long article , which might take hours if done manually. This provides unprecedented convenience for people to browse webpages written in foreign languages, the embedded translator can provide the translated version of the content in their native language instantly. Furthermore, as the algorithm of these software programs has become growingly intelligent, the quality of automatic translation has improved drastically. We can see this in the widespread use of the Google Translator, which has gained a good reputation for its outstanding performance and accuracy in software translation.
Having said that, it does not mean automatic translation has no flaws. When it comes to literature and other writings with a large degree of nuance in their words and phraseology, computers usually fall short of delivering a satisfactory output. For example , for a sarcastic essay full of puns and figurative use of language, it is very likely that software fails to convey the original meaning. In this case, undoubtedly, a qualified translator can do a better job.
All in all,I believe translation software can play a significant role in helping people overcome the language barrier. Although computers can never be as smart as humans, its benefits greatly outweigh the drawbacks as they liberate us from tedious and mechanical work.
